Mini implants are generally used to support dentures that can be removed but were initially designed to provide temporary support as the wounds heal after a treatment for regular dental implants. They are cheaper but proved to be better and thus more favorable with their smaller diameters that allowed instant installation. faster implants mean faster teeth/dentures, allowing patients to leave in a shorter time compared to the several visits required for a regular implant.
They have an o-ring that ,locks the denture in place with a cup installed onto the denture that locks through the o-ring. The whole assembly is small enough to allow the installation of several ones in one sitting thus lessening the treatment period. Traditional implants needed several treatments that required proper healing for them to succeed, any failure in the healing process can lead to failure thus increasing the risk for the patient. -

Dentists claim that the upper back jaw is one of the most challenging areas to successfully place a dental implant since bone quantity and quality are normally not enough to hold the implant. Being close to the sinus is also a major consideration which can affect the dental implant. In a case like this, dentists resort to sinus augmentation or “sinus lifting” in order to add sufficient bone to the patient’s upper jaw for the placement of dental implants. The sinus floor is raised or lifted to make room for the bone to develop, hence, the name “sinus lift”. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a periodontist commonly performs this type of procedure. -

The quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed plays a crucial role in determining whether or not a dental implant procedure will be successful. The bone must be strong and wide enough to hold the dental implant that is why patients who have deformities in the upper or lower jaw may need modifications in order to ensure a strong, sufficient jawbone. Ridge modification is one procedure that can be used to correct such deformities. The process involves making an incision to the gum and lifting it to reveal any defect. Then, the defect is built up with bone or bone substitutes so that it becomes leveled with the ridge. The dentist closes the incision to allow healing. It will take about 4-12 months before the patient can be allowed to have a dental implant. -
Dental Implants with Protein?
Filed under Implant DentistryApr 6As a new advancement on treating tooth loss due to gum disease, titanium dental implants coated with protein is the answer. MCG researchers did laboratory tests using protein to implants to direct endogenous stem cells in becoming bone-forming cells. The result was almost a complete regeneration of lost tissue. Around the teeth, the bone-forming cells grew into existing bone and eventually into bone themselves. But, the root of the tooth was destroyed by the replacement bone. That process prevented regeneration of other essential tissues around the tooth. More test to come in the near future to be able to make protein be usable in bone regeneration.

Dental Implants:3 Types
Filed under Implant DentistryApr 5There are three types of implants, and they can be described according to their shape and how they are attached to the jaw.
ENDOSSEOUS (en-doss-ee-us)-“within the bone”

These are implants that usually shaped like a screw or cylinder and are made either of metal, metal covered with ceramic, or ceramic material. They are placed within the patients jawbone. There are also blade-shaped implants.
SUBPERIOSTEAL (sub-pear-ee-oss-tee-al)-“on top of the bone”
These are implants consist of a metal framework that attaches on top of the jawbone but underneath the gum tissue.TRANSOSTEAL (trans-oss-tee-al)-“through the bone”

These are implants that are either a metal pin or a U-shaped frame that passes through the jawbone and the gum tissue, into the mouth. The dental specialist or general dentist is the one who chooses the type, size, and design of dental implant. This choice is made according to where the implant will be placed, what kind of bone and how much bone is available, and the design of the tooth or teeth that will be supported by the implant(s). Your dentist will be the one to determine which type is best suited to your needs.
